Rio - a very worthy winner

Shortly after 10:00 local time in Chicago, people began to fill Daley Plaza - 10:20 around 4000 were on the square. The mood was high and to honor this important moment the fountain jets orange water. A few minutes later the first results came from Copenhagen which three cities that went on to the second round in the voting of Host City the 2016 Olympics.
Everyone expected that Chicago would go ahead to at least the final round as President Barack Obama had been in place and met the IOC-members one by one and Chicago was favorite city for many. But Chicago was eliminated in the first round of voting despite President Obama’s support.
In the second round darkness descended also over Asia when Tokyo was out despite a brilliant presentation. Now left were Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. And should we believe betting sites, Rio de Janeiro was going to be the winner. An emotional President da Silva was overjoyed to Rio's victory
At 18.50 Copenhagen time the IOC President Jacques Rogge made the announcement: Like in all competitions there is only one winner proclaimed… and the winner is Rio de Janeiro! Another statesman had helped his candidate city as the Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was promoting Rio's bid by telling IOC: "Rio is ready. Give us this chance and you will not regret it. We promise we will deliver unforgettable Games.” With reference to one of the promotion films from Rio President Silva also said: “You will see for yourselves the passion, the energy and the creativity of the Brazilian people."
This is the first time the Olympic Games will take place in South America .
