Super Bowl changed the profile for Detroit

The Hosting Winners Conference was divided in two parts: “Hosting Major Events” and “Bidding for Major Events”. The CEO of Sport Event Denmark Lars Lundov opened the conference and first out was Detroit that presented how they by organizing the NFL Super Bowl changed the profile of the city, and especially important was how American media found out that even if Detroit is brought to its knees the Super Bowl showed that Detroit a is not counted out! Even if the unemployment rate today is 28.9%!

Copenhagen awarded the UCI Bike City Label

Next out was the International Cycling Federation (UCI) who presented how their 8 sports, from Road Racing and Track Racing that joined the Olympics in 1896 to today´s BMX that participated in the 2008 Olympics, Mountain Biking, Para-cycling, Cyclo-cross, Trials and Indoor cycling has made cycling one of the big media sports all over the world. And the first city that is awarded the UCI Bike City label is Copenhagen that will arrange six world class cycling events between 2008 and 2011. This will position Copenhagen even more as an international as well as a sporting city.

10 years smart and effective strategy paid off for Rio

Leonardo GrynerSingapore made a well prepared presentation of how they gained the support of IOC to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 but the climax of the day was the Rio de Janeiro presentation and how they manage to be the host for the 2016 Olympics. And that it was not a coincidence that Rio won, was quickly realized when Communications Director Leonardo Gryner (picture) showed that it was 10 years of smart and effective strategy that finally paid off.

When Rio in 1999 lost the Olympic Bid they realized it was not enough to be a beautiful city. Instead they made a new strategy and when Rio in 2002 won the bid to host the Pam American Game 2007 the city also took the decision to aim for the Olympic Games in 2016. Therefore Rio delivered the Pan American Games in 2007 on an Olympic Standard and organized for the first time in South America also the Para Pan American Games. And in 2007 the city invited key persons from the IOC so they could see themselves what Rio and Brazil had arranged.
The same team that was responsible for the Pan American Games in 2007 was responsible for the 2016 bid. And first the Federal Government joined the bid group, then the City Government and finally the State Government. When the Bid Group had all the Governments together the city also got the general public on their side.

Copenhagen will attract more international sport events

The way Sport Event Denmark has handled the “121st IOC session and XIII Olympic Congress” has strengthened the possibility for Denmark and Copenhagen in attracting and hosting major international sport events in the future. The IOC session and Congress will end Friday 9 October 2009 with a reception in the Tivoli Gardens.
