Today, the four candidate cities Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo cycled with their sport stars and delegates from Bella Center to the City Hall in the centre of Copenhagen on
Leader of the tour was the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Ritt Bjerregard, and behind her were 30 Olympians but also prominent politicians and delegates, as the Brazilian Minister of Sports Orlando Silva, the Danish Minister of Culture Pia Allerslev, and the IOC member Frank Frederick, Namibia, among many others.
The most famous cyclist was the mega star Miguel Indurain from Spain, Olympic gold medal winner but also five time winner of Tour de France! As it was a "friendly race", the Copenhagen Bike Tour must be the slowest race Miguel has done in his life. Other mega stars was the double Olympic gold medal winner Edwin Moses, USA , Jackie Joyner who has three Olympic Gold, and Morten Andersson, Denmark, who is the all-time leading scorer in the NFL’s history.

But the most fantastic sportsman today in the Copenhagen Bike Tour was the Japanese around the world runner and sailor Hazama Kanpei, who set off from Japan December 17, 2008 and reached Copenhagen today, as he is also official ambassador for the Tokyo 2016 Olympic bid. The first two weeks Kanpei ran 700 kilometres in Japan, then he sailed for 70 days across the Pacific to Long Beach in California. After just 3 days rest he ran for 104 days the 4,830 kilometres across USA via Chicago to New York. From there he sailed over the Atlantic to Le Havre in France, and then he run to Copenhagen. After Copenhagen he will run all the way across Europe and Asia and finally sail across the East China Sea back to Japan.
Friday, 2 October is the real competition between the four cities, in the evening the world will know if it will be Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo that will be the host of the 2016 Olympics. |
