The Session is the annual general assembly of the International Olympic Committee, IOC. Both the session and the congress will be attended by ca 1,200 delegates.
The Olympic Congress is only held every 10-15 years. This year the participants will discuss the theme “The Olympic movement in the Society”, and several other sub themes that concern the Olympic movement, such as the athletes; the Olympic Games as a main event; the digital revolution; Olympism and Youth, and the structure of the Olympic Movement.
The official opening ceremony in the Opera, with the IOC’s president Jaques Rogge, and HM Queen Margrethe as guest, marks the opening of the first part of the session.
Next day it is announced which city of the four candidates - Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo - will host the Olympic Games in 2016. The announcement will be broadcasted live to millions of people all over the world.
The second part of the session and the congress takes place 7-9 October in Copenhagen Congress Centre – the Bella Center. T
The closing reception - 'See you in Denmark' - will take place in Tivoli Garden. Several royal guests are expected to attend the Session and the Congress.
Already in the end of September Copenhagen will be the scene for a number of special sport events organized as a tribute to the 121st IOC Session and XIII Olympic Congress.
Hosts for the event are the Danish National Olympic Committee and the Sports Confederation of Denmark.
